Having gone to drama school at Central School of Speech and Drama in the early 70s, I committed myself to drama teaching and voice coaching to teenagers and adults in 2 Oxfordshire secondary schools as well as the Oxford Probation Hostel, youth clubs and various adult groups for 11 years.
Pretty demanding and rather exhilarating at times - particularly when my kids 'got it'. However it could get scary at times - one of the more disturbed ex-cons thought I had bewitched him after he had discussed something with me and become distressed. He threatened my life and set fire to his bedroom.
I trained as a hypnotherapist with the National College of Hypnotherapists and Psychotherapists in the mid 80s and went on to work full-time in private practice for the last 21 years. Very rewarding. I specialised in working with clients who were recovering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and adult children of abusive parents. To extend my skills and talents I learnt Adlerian counselling (yes, you're right, rather obscure), Emotional Freedom Technique (wonderful with high stress situations such as phobias like fear of flying), Neuro-Linguistic Programming (rather fashionable in business now, isn't it) and then discovered the wonders of Life Coaching via Global Resonance.
So 4 years ago or so, I gradually moved my practice over to Performance Coaching. Suddenly that eureka moment (apparently Greek for "Wow, the bath water's hot!") happened last year and I focused my marketing on Voice Coaching.
I like knowing there are only a few of us out there and I believe my offering has a unique skill set and approach (panders to my hankering after specialness!). I can focus on the mechanics of how to develop a great voice through exercises and also can plunder my toolbox to find out why clients have certain vocal stresses and help them reach solutions that fit their situation.
I live very happily here in Goring, a South Oxfordshire village (what a beautiful part of the world!) with my wise and affectionate 18 year old son, James and a flirty, eye-catching greyhound, Jess.
