A quote in yesterday`s Times, "If you actually look like your passport photo, you aren`t well enough to travel" (Imogen Stubbs) - gave me a smile. If you looked at mine, you`d think they`d just removed the IV!
I was leafing through The Times this morning over my hot water and dug up these jewels of wisdom. Survival Tips:
- Everything will be OK in the end. If it`s not OK, it`s not the end.
- Go confidently in the direction of your dreams.
- Never take no for an answer. There is always a solution for every situation.
and finally............Read on>>>>
- Always pre-empt a problem. Don`t wait for a crisis to happen. Be prepared for it to happen.
These little survival tips were tucked beside a fascinating article about a 26 year old entrepreneur, Melissa Del Bono who`d set up her own handbag company Meli Melo and was now selling to Harrods and Harvey Nichols.
She`d saved hard for a round-the-world trip. However when people kept stopping her in the street to ask where she`d got her self made handbag, she cashed in her £1,000 plane ticket and spent it on setting up her company. "Instead of taking holidays with friends, I used my time off to search the internet for suppliers and manufacturers," she said.
She sourced the leather from Italy since, "I knew I could get the softest leather and the colours trhat I wanted."
Now this is the bit I that leapt out at me when I read it........"Ms Del Bono called Harvey Nichols every four days for two months to make an appointment with the store`s buyer. Her persistence paid off: four months after the launch, Harvey Nichols agreed to take her goods.
Once Ms Del Bono made the decision to back her intuition, she backed it to the hilt. She kept on going in "the direction of her dreams" and it has brought it`s reward.
I often wonder what I have given up on that would have been successful if I had persisted. One of the great secrets of creating a lucky future for yourself is to keep on going, even if it seems impossible. It makes all the difference.
