A lovely client of mine caught me out this evening.
Ah, for all of you who`ve yet to discover, I`m a Luck Coach. I use hypnosis occasionally to anchor the positive outcome that my client visualises and use relaxation techniques give their unconcious the confidence that it`s all perfectly possible to achieve.
He was obviously listening more carefully than I was expecting. So when.........Read on>>>>
I said, "So ready, one, two, three open your eyes!" he immediately opened his eyes, smiled at me and exclaimed,
"I know what you were doing! You were just using positive language - and in the present too!"
He was right. When I work in hypnosis, I`m really careful to keep every suggestion I make a positive one. The unconscious is listening closely and believes everything you tell it. However, it doesn`t register a negative. So when you say,"I`m not going to worry," or "I`m not going to be late,"all the unconscious will register is," I am going to worry!"," I am going to be late!" . Counterproductive. So instead of "worry" I suggest "I am calm or tranquil" and instead of "late" I use "I am prompt" or "my timing is perfect".
And even when I talk about what the vision holds for my client, I use the present. If I were to talk about what will happen, then the unconscious picks up that it`s not happening yet and therefore won`t make it happen at all. For the unconscious, the future doesn`t exist, only the present. Like a small child it is very literal and experiences life in the here and now.
This is also true of the language you use in everyday life. The unconcious believes everything you say about yourself and will set about proving you right. Like that little child, if you keep on telling it that you are stupid, it will look out for wonderful examples of your stupidity and obtuseness.
So when you work out some affirmations for yourself, make sure they`re in the present (even though in your present reality they don`t seem possible) and always phrased positively. Some examples: -
There`s plenty of time for me to do everything I want.
There is no limit to how good I can feel.
The better I take care of myself, the more others take care of me.
Everyone loves me, even if they don`t know it yet.
Do feel free to write and tell me what your favourite affirmations or ask my opinion on any you are working on. Just contact me, sarah@theluckaccelerator.com (and if you don`t know what an affirmation is, have a look at the June 23rd blog entry "Another Lovely Day!").
With love.
