Russell Grant Does It Again!!

Well, lookee here, the horoscope this morning read like this...

"A newcomer to your social circle strikes you as overly idealistic. At first, you'll shake your head at this person's seeming naivete. Gradually you'll notice this character seems to experience an inordinate amount of lucky breaks. That's really not a coincidence. By radiating positive energy, your pal is attracting all sorts of good fortune. Take a page from their book and see what happens. Assume an idealistic view for an entire week."

What he means by 'an idealistic view' is a positive attitude, I guess. An attitude of trusting that other people have the best of intentions, that things will turn out well even against the odds, that you will win through whatever happens. Sounds good. How to get there? Read on>>

The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner!

You remember that one of the characteristics of a lucky person is resilience - a determination that whatever the cost, if they have decided that this is what needs to be done, they`ll see it through 'till the end?

Well I was reading the Dr Joseph Mercola eHealthy News site when I came across this and fell about laughing!

In 1981 the Daily Mail ran a story about an unfortunate Japanese long-distance runner, Kimo Nakajimi, who had entered the London Marathon but, on account of a translation error, thought that he had to run for 26 days, not 26 miles. The Daily Mail reported that Nakajimi was now somewhere out on the roads of England, still running, determined to finish the race. Supposedly various people had spotted him, though they were unable to flag him down. The translation error was attributed to Timothy Bryant, an import director, who said, "I translated the rules and sent them off to him. But I have only been learning Japanese for two years, and I must have made a mistake. He seems to be taking this marathon to be something like the very long races they have over there."

I wonder if he`s still running?

My son, my hero!

I was talking to Sharon today - we had put together about 50 questions we prepared to answer and then taped our discussion and Sharon would type up the discussion as a basis for our ebook "The Big Book Of Luck!" Our discussion was going really well. Ideas were spilling over and we were continually interrupting each other being so stimulated by what the other was saying. Then something Sharon said sparked a lightbulb on in my mind.

We were talking about what makes a person a "lucky" person. I suddenly thought of my son James. He utterly believes that when he sets out to do something, he will achieve it. This is a sign of a lucky person. I just had to tell Sharon the story of what happened to him as a young boy to hard wire in that belief.

At the age of 3 he said he wanted a computer games console (at the time it was a Sony he wanted). I was adamant that he wasn`t going to have one. I was committed to the Steiner ideal that children needed to be surrounded by natural things. Computer games were the last thing on the agenda. I told him (oh so foolishly!) "Not until you`re 9 or 10." Yes, nowI know the calibre of the boy. Then I was due to find out!

He waited. Every so often he reminded me that he was going to have the games console when he was 9. I just hmmed and talked of something else.

When he was 81/2 years old he said he now wanted a Nintendo 64 please for his next birthday. I realised my ghastly mistake!

It was especially difficult because my husband had been made redundant 3 times the previous year and had we had now embarked on a full year of his unemployment. We were very broke. And James (my son) told me that the Nintendo would cost an impossible £160.

"OK" I said brightly. "Right, your dad and me haven`t got that sort of money, my dear. However, I have an idea. If you write a letter to all your friends and relations at your birthday and save the money, we`ll see how much you can get."

By this time we knew that James was dyslexic and dyspraxic so writing a letter would be difficult for him. He could barely read and write. So I wrote out a letter for him to copy.

James wrote his letter to all his friends and relations asking for money instead of a present and bless them, most were really happy to do so knowing that they were giving him something he really wanted. They also knew that it had taken a big effort for him to have asked. This was in July.

He managed to accumulate £60. He then saved his £1 a week pocket money for the next 6 months until Christmas and wrote to his friends and relations again telling them how much he`d managed to save and once again asking for money rather than a present (bless them, some even gave him money and a present!).

On Boxing Day James proudly went with his dad into Reading to get his Nintendo 64 and purchase 2 games with the money.

I have never looked on Super Mario in the same light ever again!

James believed there would be a happy outcome - he was sure of it. And he made sure of it. He was resilient - there were occasions when he grew impatient though he recovered quickly. He had absolutely clear about his vision. He was excited by his quest and knew he`d reach his goal. James fits the profile of a "lucky" person.

Another Lovely Day!

"Another lovely day!" Is what Tony Benn`s mother used to say as she woke him every morning when he was little. Imagine what that does to a young mind! Children believe everything adults say to them - they`re programmed to in order to learn quickly. When that little boy heard this, his unconcious mind set about proving his mother right. Whatever his politics (and he`s a radical left-wing labour MP), I don`t suppose any of us would dispute that Tony Benn has a sunny nature and irrepressible optimism. What his mother encouraged him to assume about each day helped him to begin that day believing it to be precious and beautiful. What a gift she gave him!

What she was doing was affirming something to be true. An affirmation. Affirmations are useful ways in which to convince your unconscious to believe something you want it to believe. If you consistently affirm something, after initial resistance you will start thinking that way. Though there are some important things to know about affirmations.

Firstly you must affirm things in the present.  If you afffirmed things as going to happen, they would stay in your future and your unconscious mind wouldn`t set about creating your present reality. So for instance, "Everyone rejoices in my being here now!" may be something really challenging for you to believe at the moment. You may find it difficult to say even. You might feel that "Everyone will rejoice in my being here now!" would be more comfortable. However, you are creating a big change in your thinking. You cannot expect for that change to feel comfortable. And using the future tense won`t make it happen.

So think about what you would like to believe about yourself, about life, about your day. "Another lucky day!" might be a good start. And if you can affirm that immediately unpon waking, you are catching yourself at a moment when your unconcious mind is wide open to suggestion, is ready to listen and take in your suggestion.

May I wish you a very lucky day today and every day.
